The Whitney Museum of American Art seeks a Staff Accountant to join its Finance and Accounting team. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Accounting, this role will be a critical part of the Museum’s Accounting operations as they will be responsible for the timely and accurate recording of many of the museum’s recurring and non-recurring financial transactions. Working closely with the Accounting Manager, this role will be heavily involved in both the annual audit and Form 990 filing, ensuring timely delivery of accurate information to all relevant stakeholders for both processes. This role will also work closely with the entire Finance and Accounting team to ensure monthly financial closes and reporting happen in a timely manner and that all cash and balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled.

Responsibilities:
- Timely recording of deposits for all checks, credit card and other electronic payments received for advancement, membership, earned & miscellaneous revenue, including verifying proper coding for each payment
- Daily cash reporting and tracking, including coordination with FP&A Manager on additional reporting and analysis
- Preparation of recurring journal entries including for deferred revenue, depreciation, pre-paid expenses, restaurant & catering activity, royalty activity
- Recording of other journal entries as requested by the Director of Finance and Accounting and the Accounting Manager and other departments (ex. Reclass of expenses)
- Assist Accounting Manager with bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist Accounting Manager with investment activity tracking and related journal entries
- Ad hoc reporting as needed and requested by internal and external
- Back-Up for Accounts Payable function
- Provide audit support for interim and year-end examinations
Requirements:
- Accounting degree (4-year degree preferred)
- 1-3 years of general accounting experience
- Experience with computerized accounting systems
- Advanced Excel and Word skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines
Compensation & Benefits:
- Pay range of $75,000 - $80,000 per annum, commensurate with experience
