Reporting to the Managing Librarian, the Project Cataloger, Library will work within a collaborative and collegial environment, providing general cataloging support for the Frances Mulhall Achilles Library and Archives at the Whitney Museum of American Art. This is a short term, temporary position, which will last through Winter 2023.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex copy cataloging of various types of materials across all disciplines, including print, media, digital resources, and other non-print formats.
  • Work with OCLC, Connexion client, and Koha ILS to create and edit MARC metadata
  • Assign Library of Congress subject cataloging and classification
  • Process and shelve library materials

Qualifications: 

  • MLS (or equivalent) degree from an ALA-accredited institution, completed or in process.
  • Professional cataloging experience.
  • Familiarity with MARC format and cataloging rules, including RDA, AACR2, LCSH, and LCC
  • Experience with an integrated library system (Koha preferred).
  • Experience with OCLC and Connexion Client.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard bibliographic and other reference tools.
  • Experience working with ClassWeb or other cataloging/classification utilities a plus.
  • Knowledge of and interest in 20th century art.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with sharp attention to detail.

Hours:

Approximately 14 hours/week, flexible days between M-F, 9:30AM-5:30PM
