The Systems Administrator plays a critical role in ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the core server and remote access platforms that support the work of the museum staff, by maintaining VMware, Exchange, and Citrix in our onsite data centerUnder the direction of the Network and Server Administrator, this position assists in management of Cisco LAN/WAN (currently Cisco 3850, 9300, 2960, and 4500 Switches, FP1120 firewalls, 8000 series wireless controllers and 3702 access points), and in management of server and storage platform (VMware and physical servers, EMC Unity).  Performs a variety of maintenance, evaluation, installation, upgrades, and troubleshoots network, server, and storage issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible with Network and Server Administrator for installation, set-up, maintenance, and operation of Windows and Linux VMware servers and physical servers
  • Responsible with Senior Manager for installation, set-up, maintenance, and operation of Cisco routers, firewalls and switches
  • Assists in day-to-day management of Museum’s network
  • Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring
  • Aid in the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, and maintain current knowledge of plan executables
  • Respond to emergency network outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans
  • Monitor and identify network capacity and performance issues
  • Provide Tier 2 support for Desktop Support Technicians
  • Apply system patches and routine maintenance
  • Perform tuning and troubleshooting
  • Act as secondary resource and support the backup and recovery processes
  • Testing and troubleshooting installed systems
  • Resolving technical issues with LAN/WAN networks, hardware, and software
  • Applying network security upgrades
  • Upgrading/replacing hardware and software systems when required
  • Training end-users on installed networking products
  • Other duties as assigned by IT management

Qualifications:​​​​​​​

  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Business or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years professional experience in network engineering and support
  • Or any equivalent combination of training, education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills
  • CCNP/CCNA Certification preferred
  • Experience installing and managing Virtual environments such as VMware vSphere, Hyper V, Xen
  • Experience with installing, configuring and managing a Cisco network infrastructure, including catalyst switches, wireless LAN controller
  • Experience in monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting and configuring ASA and/or FirePOWER NGFW firewall access control lists (or similar experience with other platforms)
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, Active Directory and Exchange
  • Knowledge of: O365 suite, Exchange Hybrid, Modern Authentication Methods, and remote access strategies
