Assistant Retail Manager
The Whitney Museum of American Art seeks a motivated Assistant Manager for its fast-paced, high-traffic, upscale retail shop.
Reporting to the Retail Experience Manager, the Assistant Manager will supervise and inspire a well-trained, highly informed a motivated team who can deliver an exceptional retail experience to all Whitney audiences; including visitors, shop customers, members, artists, vendors and colleagues.
The Assistant Manager leads the Sales Associates to welcome and engage audiences, actively responds to their needs, promotes the Whitney’s broad programs and maintains an excellent standard of service. This role serves daily as a floor leader in all duties, functions and activities as they pertain to daily retail operations, and supports the Retail Experience Manager in the ongoing training and performance development of the Retail Associates, the product presentation, brand storytelling, Retail events and activations. The manager will work with other front facing departments, such as Membership, Visitor Services and Security to “own” the customer experience in a fast-paced high traffic environment.
Successful candidates will bring an appreciation of the shopping experience, an enthusiasm for customer service, effective communication skills and a keen attention to detail to this key public facing role.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing and modeling all customer service and team interactions based on Whitney Experience principles, to achieve best in class performance
- Leading the daily performance of Sales Associates in their operational workflows
- Providing efficient and accurate processing of sales transactions across technology platforms
- Responsibly handle cash and credit card transactions, preparing bank deposits and maintain the retail operating bank
- Actively deliver high standards of merchandise presentation, both visually and verbally
- Optimize in store stock levels and organization, manage floor signage presentation
- Perform accounting reconciliation of daily sales
- Assist in coordinating the breakdown of the retail shop for events
- Provide efficient and accurate administrative support for scheduling, operations planning, and training
- Event planning and other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- BA preferred but not required. Additional languages a plus
- Supervisory retail experience and strong public facing customer service
- Accurate cash handling and administrative skills
- Outgoing and professional attitude
- Previous POS and inventory experience
- Ability to lift and carry moderate weights of merchandise
- Interest in arts & culture
