Reporting to the Director, Membership the Senior Manager, Membership and Event Marketing strategically designs and implements a wide variety of event programming to drive new audiences to the Museum and deepen the engagement and support the growth of the Whitney’s Membership base. The Senior Manager is an adept collaborator, working across many departments – Curatorial, Education, Marketing, and Communications – on key institutional priorities, supporting Free Admission Programs and leading Free Friday Night programming, as well as all Membership events and engagement. The Senior Manager works closely with the supervisees, Member Events Producer and Marketing Events Producer, to ensure the seamless execution of events, from beginning to end, and the timely communication of member benefits and engagement opportunities. In addition to the events focused work, the Senior Manager oversees and strategizes all member benefits and directly cultivates key audiences, members, and influencers.  

Responsibilities: 

Event Planning, Execution, and Strategy for Members and Key New Audiences 

  • In close collaboration with the Chief Marketing Officer, strategically designs and implements a wide variety of event programming to support audience development & growth objectives and deepen the engagement of Whitney Members growing loyalty, engagement and lifetime value 
  • Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams (e.g. Curatorial, Education, Marketing, and Communications, and more) to generate engaging programming connecting audiences to the Whitney’s program, values, and mission and amplifying key institutional moments and priorities, i.e. exhibition openings and closings, Free Friday Nights, Second Sundays, fundraisers, and more 
  • Responsible for overseeing and executing events for members and key audiences with support from the Membership Events Producer and Marketing Events Producer. 
  • Manages Member events and Free Friday Nights budgets and resource allocation across full year planning 
  • Identifies and cultivates partners and programming relationships to grow popularity and build word of mouth 

Cultivation, Engagement, Revenue Driving efforts 

  • Work closely with Communications, Press, and Marketing teams to generate greater awareness of the Museum as well as track and analyze key performance metrics to measure the successes of event marketing efforts, identify areas for improvement, and optimize future strategies to increase Museum attendance. 
  • Work closely with CMO, Director, Membership, and Senior Manager, Membership and Growth Marketing to design tailored lifecycle communications and interventions to further cultivate existing key audiences, net new audiences, members, influencers, etc.  
  • Act as relationship manager of the Whitney Contemporaries and as main point of contact for Circle to Sponsor member groups. Welcomes new members into the program personally, orients members to the experience, and promotes long term relationships with the Museum. 
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director, Marketing, works to build relationships with influencers for the purpose of amplifying important institutional ideas and moments, i.e. exhibition openings.   

Member Benefits

  • Ensures that events and other benefits adhere to a schedule of fulfillment for every segment in keeping with promised member benefits and meeting audience expectations and building interest for Whitney programming. 
  • Works closely with Director, Membership to routinely assess and benchmark member benefits and pricing. Recommend and strategize around new offerings to drive growth and build customer lifetime value, helping the program anticipate and meet shifting demands 
  • Effectively communicates and promotes utilization of all member benefits, e.g. visitation and guest privileges, shopping and dining discounts, and event attendance. 

Requirements: 

  • BA / BS required, with additional coursework in marketing, loyalty building a plus.   
  • Knowledge of modern and contemporary art, either from coursework or in a professional setting  
  • Experience managing budgets 
  • Ability to manage high profile events and communications 
  • Ability to make follow good judgement and make timely and data driven decisions 
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple deadline-driven projects 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently in writing and in person 
  • 6-8+ years of work experience in managing and executing events of all formats  
  • Dedicated experience working as a relationship manager and developing audience-driving programming 
  • Basic HTML as well as experience with email marketing, preferably MailChimp and Asana tools  
  • Raiser’s Edge proficient  
  • Understanding of membership programs and art world landscape 
  • Experience setting up and leading digital programs (Zoom events, etc) Familiarity with POS, and/or database programs  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) 
  • Passion for modern and contemporary art and/or culture 
  • Nights and weekends as needed for events staffing and execution 

Compensation & Benefits:
