Retail Sales and Stock Associate (FT)

New York City, NY - Full Time

Be a part of our dedicated Retail team at the premier Museum of the 20th and 21st Century American Art. We are looking for an organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team to provide a seamless flow between the off-site retail warehouse and the on-site retail stock room and sales floor, and to serve as both back-of-house and front-of-house support for the Retail team.

Reporting jointly to the Assistant Manager, Merchandise and the Retail Experience Manager, the Full-Time Retail Sales and Sales and Stock Associate serves a dual role as a customer service representative and inventory management support as part of the Retail team. This position provides exceptional service to museum visitors, assists with sales transactions, and maintains merchandise presentation while also assisting with stockroom operations, inventory control, and supply logistics. The associates will work with other Retail stakeholders, such as the Manager of Online Sales and Retail Experience Manager, front-of-house Retail team members, and other Museum departments to support the Retail stockroom and warehouse operation as well as the Retail sales floor in a fast paced, high traffic sales environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide outstanding customer service by engaging with visitors and delivering product knowledge.
  • Process sales transactions accurately and handle cash and credit card transactions responsibly.
  • Maintain high standards of merchandise presentation and organization in both the stock room and sales floor areas.
  • Receive, label, and stock inventory items, supplies, and department-related materials.
  • Execute inventory transfers between the off-site warehouse, stockroom, and sales floor.
  • Reconcile and enter invoices into the accounts payables system.
  • Assist with restocking merchandise and maintaining stockroom security.
  • Support e-commerce fulfillment, including packaging and shipping orders.
  • Participate in inventory counts and assist in event setup and breakdown.
  • Maintain organization and security in stock areas.
  • Execute transactions and store opening/closing procedures.
  • Monitor and communicate inventory status and replenishment needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of retail or sales experience
  • Previous POS and inventory experience, including accurate cash handling skills
  • Interest in public facing customer service interactions
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills
  • Working knowledge of a Microsoft Office Suite or comparable software
  • Works well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, including outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy weights of boxes and merchandise
  • Friendly, outgoing, and professional attitude
  • Must be able to work weekend, holidays, early and evening hours
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred; a second language is a plus
  • Interest in arts and cultural institutions is a plus
  • High School Diploma
Compensation & Benefits:
  • This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) with a starting wage of $24 per hour
