Coordinator, Exhibition Production

The Coordinator, Exhibition Production, plays an important role in exhibition preparations, working closely with the Museum's in-house team and outside contractors who build and paint gallery walls; fabricate pedestals, cases, and platforms; and source and purchase materials and supplies needed for the construction and production of Whitney exhibition designs. The Coordinator assists with construction drawings, purchasing, invoicing, and scheduling, and shares supervision responsibilities with the Manager, Exhibition Production, during construction, demolition, and installation periods. Reporting to the Director, Exhibition and Collection Preparation, the Coordinator will also provide support at the Museum's art storage facility.

 Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create construction drawings for Whitney exhibitions
  • Oversee outside vendors and contracted trades
  • Source and purchase production materials
  • Prepare invoices for construction and production expenditures
  • Track design production budgets
  • Manage construction schedules and production calendars
  • Prepare staff attendance reports
  • Support the Director, Exhibition and Collection Preparation as needed

 Requirements:

  •  B.A. in related field
  •  Minimum 2 years of experience in museum design production or related field
  •  Experience with best construction practices
  •  Ability to read architectural drawings
  •  Proficiency with AutoCAD and TMS
  •  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  •  Background or interest in modern and contemporary art
  •  Ability to work weekends or overtime hours during exhibition changeovers
  •  High tolerance for working in a fast-paced environment while under firm deadlines
